Hi, Have you checked the link lights on the system where the Ethernet cable is connected? If there are no lights, please check the system BIOS to see the LAN card is enabled. To access the BIOS screen, restart the computer and start tapping the F2 key Select Onboard Devices and see if Integrated NIC is disabled /Enabled. If it’s disabled, would suggest you to enable it. Ensure that the network drivers are installed and there is no yellow mark on it. (Refer to the snapshot below) If the issue still persists, please install the Broadcom Advanced Control Suite software (Broadcom Diagnostic Utility) from the Dell drivers & utilities CD. The Broadcom Advanced Control Suite software displays general information about network components like network adapters.

Go to Control Panel and select Broadcom Advanced Control Suite. (Refer to the snapshot below) Please reply with the results. Thanks and Regards Priyanka S #iworkfordell. I have downloaded the Broadcom Advanced Control Suite software (Broadcom Diagnostic Utility) and ran it. It states there are no Broadcom devices to manager or test.

I went to the Broadcom website last night and downloaded what is supposed to be the correct driver for the ethernet adapter and it fails. I have done a fresh install of XP, and no luck.

I loaded Dell Diagnostics and ran them and it does not see the ethernet adapter. I keep thinking this sounds and feels like an incorrect driver issue but the adapter that is on the motherboard according to the service tag is a 5740 GB ethernet adapter but I get a message in device manager that the adapter may not be functioning correctly when I install any driver. I get the farthest with a 5701 driver. I see 'Broadcom GB ethernet adapter' in the device manager when i install the 5701 for XP but I it still states that the device may not be functioning correctly. I think I will put in a known working 3COMM PCI NIC in the Optiplex, get it on the network and run online diags and see what it comes up with. PCI Devices DO NOT ENUMERATE properly if you install Blank OS without Chipset and Management Engine Drivers. The AMD Chipset is NOT native to windows.
